1. The Chordettes- "Mr. Sandman"/ "I Don't Wanna See You Cryin'"

This particular plate I choose to post because there are so many wonderful people that came from WI that changed the world. Not a lot of them are recognized, or they are lumped into a pile of assumptions as to where they came from. Which is always New York or California. These ladies hail from Sheboygan, Wi. Which I know well, as I am a native to the state myself. Wisconsin has pumped out more than just Harley’s and beer. Milwaukee is a Hot Rod town. A 50’s heaven of old school tradition, with a very unique music scene that still keeps this era alive to the current day. With shows like Johnny Z’s Chicken Shack on WMSE. Or the great band “The Uptown Savages”. Roots run deep in Sconnieland. Matter of fact, Barbershop (which is what these beautiful ladies are), has been a mainstay here since I can remember. My Mom was a “Sweet Adeline” herself. The Chordettes have had at least 12 members since their inception, the last one to pass away was in 2020. Their career was a 20 year long stretch with many singles, including the HUGE hit “Lollipop”. They have graced thousands of stages, and hundreds of TV Programs throughout their career, including American Bandstand. All the early cuts of theirs were released on Cadence before moving to Columbia for a stint. This guy here is one of my cleanest 78’s that I own. Played on the correct table, these ladies sound like they are in the room with you. Ahhhh, the untapped fidelity of the 78. Also, I must mention that the song “Mr. Sandman” was featured in John Carpenter’s Halloween ll. Which now I am sure millions of people associate this song to be a partner of. Which is fantastic. 2 independent artists creating a monster of a legacy. So go get you a copy. It will put you in the back of a droptop Ford with a flathead on your way to the local high school dance. They just don’t make ‘em like this anymore……
